Let's Pull Your People Together
At BlackStar Maniacs we can help organisations pull their people together in a way that is so different to the normal team building exercises. Yeah, everyone loves a bit of karting or paintballing, and even maybe an escape room. But what about something different? Something that really brings the team together whilst making them use their noggins? Well, we have a couple of things that might fit the bill.
Play In A Day
We offer our Play In A Day as a fun way of bringing colleagues together. For our PIAD the BlackStar Maniacs team will come to the work place (or another venue) and work with your people on the production of a play. Okay, bear with us here. We know, your team acting in a play probably seems a little far-fetched, right? Well, maybe not as far-fetched as you’d think.

It’s amazing how many people have always thought they’d make a great actor on the quiet. You’ll be surprised how many of these dark horses there are: Ray in accounts, a secret wannabe De Niro. Or Jamie, the marketing guy – always in the gym and convinced that if he’d had the breaks Zac Efron had then he’d have done a far better job in Baywatch. And let’s not even get on to Paula in purchasing and her Demi Moore thing.
Seriously though, there’s a lot to be had from the team effort of working on a play. As actors, writers and directors, we know that a successful production requires everyone pulling in the same direction.
Actors are very supportive of one another – they have to be, as once you’re up there, everyone has to be on their game. They don’t judge, and they help each other get to where they need to be. They know that’s the only road to success – if they’re all successful together. This, of course, leads to a feeling of accomplishment that is unlike anything else. And there’s parallels with the corporate world, right there. But what about if we start to talk about things like building confidence? Where does that start to take it?

Standing in front of others with a script in your hand can be uncomfortable to start with, even when you’re amongst friends. What gets you beyond that is those people around you. It doesn’t take long to realise that they’re in the same boat as you, and that when they’re laughing, they’re actually laughing with you.
A team taking part in a PIAD certainly has to work hard. Even though for the final performance actors can perform script in hand, there is still plenty to do. Actors must be alert to remember cues and stage positioning, which really makes demands of them. The actors learn that someone is always relying on them, so being prepared becomes important very quickly.
The play usually combines comedy with drama, but we can tailor the piece to suit your needs. Play In A Day is scalable and we can accommodate a cast of between four and ten members.
The whole thing plays out across a full day, and ends with a performance of the play. The play can be performed to colleagues, and even better if it’s a management team performing for the rest of the staff. In essence, Play In A Day brings everyone closer by giving them an understanding and appreciation of each other. They should leave immensely proud of themselves, with the feeling that they have someone they can rely on alongside them.

Murder Mysteries
A Murder Mystery event is certainly something a little different. Rather than another night of same old, same old, why not add a bit of excitement as you socialise? For anyone unfamiliar, a Murder Mystery event is a gathering where participants work together to solve a fictional murder. The teamwork and competition element can be a great way of team building.
