Mick
Mick is the head of the Garrett family. He is a proud father of his two boys Nick and Jack, and husband to Michelle.
Mick has been a plumber all of this working life and has brought his boys into the trade as well. He’s known as being one of the best around, a guy that others in the trade would come to for advice. As well as his sons, Mick also works with his neighbour of twenty years, and best friend, Derek.
Mick is a huge Newcastle United fan, and is a season ticket holder. He goes to all the home games with Nick and Derek. Despite trying many times as he was growing up, Mick could never get Jack to watch any football. His mood, around Newcastle matches, is largely dictated by the fortunes of the team and a defeat can seem like the end of the world, leaving no one safe from his wrath.
At home Mick is a traditional husband and father. He is in charge and everyone has to understand that. He likes traditional meals served at the table, where he sits in his chair. The teapot has to be scalded, plates have to be warmed and chocolate biscuits are kept for best. And him.
Mick like’s a drink, and prefers the local, The Queen’s Head, where he’s like part of the furniture. It’s not unusual for Mick to have one or two In the Queen’s, Mick usually drink’s an IPA, and if there’s not something he fancies he opts for Guinness.
He stopped drinking lager when a pal whose brother knew a doctor told him it caused brewer’s droop. Mick is a barstool preacher and is more than willing to give any of the regulars the gospel according to Mick.
Mick has “the wireless” permanently tuned to Talk Sport radio to keep abreast of the football news. Though not a huge music fan, when Talk Sport features something that he doesn’t like, he revert ’s to a meat and two veg CD – Queen, Dire Straits or ABBA.
He’s not impressed at all by modern music, in fact he’s not impressed by anything modern at all. He is quick to dismiss anything of this ilk, verbally and with great disdain, and anyone that enjoys such new-fangled oddities is considered an idiot.
