Nick

Nick is the original Jack the Lad. He works to live rather than living to work, and living, for Nick, means living it large. As Nick’s older brother, his lifestyle is often the cause of conflict between the brothers. Jack longs for the day that Nick will move out, but he’s in no hurry. He dates a different girl virtually every week and it’s not usually for very long.

It goes without saying that Michelle sees little wrong in her first born and is the first to defend his bachelor lifestyle as him “making the most of what God gave him, while he’s still young”. Because they have so much in common, plus the fact that they work together daily, Nick and his dad are more like pals than father and son. Mick loves his laddish lifestyle and is probably living a life he’d have liked for himself through Nick.

However, unlike his dad, and Jack, Nick sees work as something that just gets in the way of his lifestyle, the fact that his work funds such a busy social life being totally lost on him. He’s usually last to start work always first to finish. Nick is also a huge fan of the black and whites and has gone to games with his dad and Derek since he was six.

Nick is a million miles away from Jack culturally; where Jack will talk about philosophy or listens to Chopin, Nick discusses the latest transfer rumours whilst listening to “Neil Diamonds” on the radio. Jack loves to take in an art exhibition at the Baltic on a Saturday afternoon, while Nick will neck five pints of lager whilst watching the strippers down the Bigg Market before the match. There is a natural brotherly bond somewhere, but it rarely surfaces, and certainly not when the lads at work are making fun of Jack when the subject has got on to nights out.
