Outside The Box - Meet the Cast

Joe Sexton - Colin Coombs

Joe describes himself as “the machine that puts the sex into Sexton”. Despite his age, Joe still hasn’t grown up and is a constant source of grief to his teammates, where is love of the fairer sex and general deviant behaviour causes havoc for everyone.

Colin Coombes is an experienced film and TV actor. His experience includes I Daniel Blake, Emmerdale, Nativity Rocks and the ITV Drama Paranoid. Prior to this, Colin had worked as a supporting artist on Eastenders. Walk Like A Man will be Colin’s first stage play.

Away from acting, Colin proudly served his country in the British Army and now runs his own pub in Sunderland.

Kevin 'Hashy" O'Hara - Craig Pearson

Hashy is the team manager and is normally tasked with getting his pal, Joe, out of bother. Despite a track record to point it out, Hashy always gives him another chance.

Gateshead native Craig has been back performing for the past 5 years, after not being involved in drama since his school days.

A current member of The Actors Forge Acting School, he has an impressive CV already, with three Feature Films, numerous Short Films and several Theatre Productions under his belt, as well as presenting and producing credits.

Kit Corrigan - Silver

Kit is a former pro that is has been tasked with lifting the standards of the team to meet their ambition. Despite Kit’s no- nonsense approach, the personalities in the dressing room make this a nightmare for him.

Silver is a stage and screen actor as well as a writer. He’s had parts in many short films, as well as roles many in many locally produced TV shows and feature films. Born and bred in Newcastle, he always lends some authenticity to the Geordie roles he plays.

For Knuckleheeds,  Silver adapted his own character, Laurence, into the character for the role with Knuckleheeds writer, Steven Lowes.

Dave Belford - Steven Lowes

Belford, as they say, would twist on 21 and can find a problem for every solution. Everything is a matter of life or death, even down to his shirt number.

Steven Lowes was born and raised in the East End of Newcastle. He came back to acting in his fifties after many years, and trained with The Actor’s Forge in Newcastle. Since then he has performed in The Club – A CIU Story, You Need To Say Sorry, appeared on stage at the first two Durham Fringe Festivals and at Northern Stage. Away from the stage, he has appeared in a number of short films.

As well as being the writer and co-director of Walk Like A Man, Steven has written a number of screenplays including Outside The Box, Knuckleheeds, PIGS and Within.

Billy - James Craister

Billy is the youngest in the team, having just attained the qualifying age of 40. He can find something funny in any situation, particularly at others’ expense or at the most inappropriate moments.

Local lad James is an actor who studied the arts from an early age, then returned to train at The Theatre Royal, Newcastle. He later moved on to become a founder-member of award-winning Newcastle acting school, The Actor’s Forge.

James has performed in theatre at Durham Fringe Festival, Northern Stage and at The People’s Theatre, as well as live performance with audience participation. James has recently been involved in a number of short films, an area of work that he is increasingly more involved in.

Dave "Audrey" Hepburn - John Torrance

Audrey is the tight arse of squad. If you borrow from Audrey then you’ll be hounded for its return, and you’ll hear nothing else until it is.

John has performed in both screen and stage productions. His screen performances include Ken Loach’s  Sorry We Missed You and ITV’s Vera, as well as a number of locally made short films.

John’s stage performances include writing and performing in a production at the Northern Stage, and the Durham Fringe Festival

Woody - Wayne C. McDonald

Woody’s life is guided by his relationship with Jesus, but his attempts to bring his teammates along with him have, as yet, failed.

Wayne is a Newcastle based Actor/DJ currently studying with Identity School of Acting. Last year Wayne successfully debuted on the London Fringe as Dennis in ‘Dennis of Penge’. He made his stage directorial debut in ‘The Boy With The Pink Scarf’ at Newcastle’s Alphabetti Theatre. He is also a writer, published poet, music producer and his hugely influential black music ‘Sugar Radio Show’ is syndicated to radio stations globally.

Robert Carr - Director

Robert is a filmmaker who has been writing and directing for over ten years. Walk Like A Man is a rare departure from film for him, although his stage directing experience includes shows at Northern Stage and the Durham Fringe Festival. As well as directing, Robert has great experience in casting actors, which was a huge benefit in the audition workshops for WLAM.
